8 Year Old Locked in Cage by Adoptive Mother

On January 25, 2013, police in Albuquerque, New Mexico drove to a mobile home residence on a tip that a child was being left unattended. Police entered the home to find an 8 year old child locked in a cage big enough to hold a baby crib mattress and stand about 4 feet tall.

Cindy Patriarchias and Edmond Gonzales were arrested on charges of negligence. Ms. Patriarchias told the police she left the child locked in the cage so she could take her other three children to the movies. Ms Patriachias has been in the process of trying to adopt the 8 year old girl, but had not been able to contact the mother to receive consent.

The little girl suffers from microcephaly which is a condition that restricts a person’s head from growing to normal size. Asides from the negligent charges, no signs of physical abuse were reported.
